Derry - our Hotel - City Hotel

We stayed at the City Hotel in the heart of the city, overlooking the river. This is also where they had lunch in 1956 (Eva, Ina and Dolly Kelly - the three sisters who left Derry and came to Canada in 1912).

Bob, our driver explaned the history of Derry on the way in. We are gping to dinner and then we are going walking eight blocks to find Argyle Street - grandma's house.

The Shrine at Knock

Here is the shrine at Knock where on August 21, 1879, 15 people saw the Virgin Mary appear for over 2 hpurs. We said a prayer for Bob's wife.

Driving to Derry

The bus driver has been telling us stories all along the way. He just told us the story of his life. He was married at 19. He had 6 kids. He was an electrician. He fell off a ladder and injured his back. He was in hospital for 8 months and was told he would never walk again. After while of living like that, he went to a shrine at Knock. A woman - the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter met him there long with a priest who had signs of stigmata (his hands bled where the nails of Christ were). They prayed and drenched his back with holy water. He left there the same - with two canes, but slowly, over the next few weeks, he got better. Eventually he became a driver. Now we are heading to Knock and he has asked us to say prayer for his wife - who we all saw last night when she came to visit - she is terribly ill and has just left the hospital. If you read this, say a prayer too.

Goodbye Galway

Leaving the Salthill Hotel, Galway. A bit of sun showing throwing. Not allowed to take pictures of the Riverdance show, but it was great. We saw .s Greenley - to top Irish dancer in the World. We arso saw the Keanley brothers - 5 times world champtions and Emma O'Sullivan - who dances the old fashioned way - Sean Nos - have a look online - it looks like tap! Also - the tour bus driver said that some of the Irish and Scottish immigrants went inland to the Appalachian mountains. The Scottish men named their first sons William - hence - Hillbilly.

The Promenade

This is the "boardwalk" made of cement (called a promenade) in front of our hotel. Galway, Ireland. We went for a walk and the saltwater on our faces was like microdermabrasion. No wonder they all have such lovely skin here.

Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin, Ireland

My three sisters and I are in Ireland for a two-week bus tour all around the coast. We came a day before the tour and stayed at the Shelbourne. Many celebrities have stayed here and it was at this hotel that the Irish co nstitution was signed in 1922. There is a room here with the constitution papers and such all there under glass. Very nice.

Joni Mitchell is one of my all time favourites.  Along with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Wish I was there. But currently I like Ingrid Michealson, Amelia Curran and Gillian Welch.
